Kitchen Mourning

Welcome! My 2017 theme is UnSimply She Fiction. Each post begins with a simple sentence about a She. This fictional She is anything but simple. She may be dark. She may be funny. You may relate to her. You many not like her at all…She is revealing her truth.

My favorite blog post from the 2016 A to Z Challenge is Kitchen Morning.  It is piece about my Kitchen as the central gathering place of love and family in my home. Click here to read my 2016 A to Z blog post Kitchen Morning. This year I decided to create a She with a very different kitchen design. Enjoy!

She is an alien in her kitchen.

Her kitchen is clean, beautiful…clinical. She has all the  unused culinary gadgets and finishings: the backsplash, the tile, the walls. A perfect crescendo of colors, a magazine spread waiting to happen.

Long ago she decided she would not fall victim to children’s artwork on the fridge, heaven forbid a child’s art work  tapped on the picture window!

She wanted a kitchen with a crumb-free-calmness.  She created a kitchen with a stillness comparable to a morgue.

She tried to beat the housewife stereotype.

She was so smug. She was so stupid.

Her kitchen represents the person she became….They became.

Her children spend their could-have-been family time at  their friends’ homes. Her husband spends his  could-have-been family time at his girlfriend’s.

She is alone in her showroom kitchen, waiting for her magazine spread life to happen…
